SINT MAARTEN - SAINT MARTIN
The
'friendly island' as Sint Maarten-Saint Martin is known, is the smallest
land mass in the world to be shared by two different nations. Only 37
square miles are owned by France and the Netherlands Antilles.
The French territory covers about two thirds of the island and is technically a part of the European Community. The Dutch side is a member island of the Netherlands Antilles and part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but not considered European territory.
Foreign enough to be exotic, but English is the most common language and the US-Dollar the usual currency. A paradise for sailing addicted, most marinas, boat yards and supply stores - all duty free prices, often cheaper than in the States - will be ready for all your needs, many regattas are held here during the winter, the most important one is the Heineken Regatta every March.
For the nightlife lovers there are clubs for every taste, 12 casinos and nonstop action for the party crowd. Known as the Caribbean gourmet island, St. Maarten-St. Martin is a culinary world leader with its restaurant selection. With 37 beaches from an active sandy scene to remote stretches of sand, the island has it all; year around sunshine.

Diving
The
big plateau around the island offers easy and beautiful dive sites. Not
to miss 'Fish Bowl', 'The Maze' full of soft corals and sponges, a real
Mecca for the macro underwater photographer and the archeological site
of the HMS Proselyte, a British Man o ’War sunk in 1801 scattering
on the reef three huge anchors and several cannons. Frequently spotted
are eagle rays, turtles, reef sharks and dolphins.

unforgettable. Hurricane season is from June till October even if most
of the hotels and diving operators are open all year around. Visibility
