The Red Sea

JORDAN & AQABA

Jordan & Aqaba

Jordan is a fascinating country full of some of the most amazing historical sites of the Middle East, so in addition to diving or relaxing in the Red Sea Resort of Aqaba you may want us to take in some of these wonderful cultural experiences. The capital city of Amman is rich in historical and archaeological offerings as well as boasting an array of quality hotels and shops. It is worthwhile taking a trip from Amman to the nearby Roman city of Jerash. This is one of the best preserved examples of a Roman provincial city. It is particularly pretty in spring when the wild flowers are in bloom. As one heads south it is like a biblical journey. Madaba holds the oldest preserved ancient mosaic map of the Holy Lands. Mt Nebo is traditionally believed to be the burial place of Moses.

Further south along the therapeutic Dead Sea is the Sanctuary of Lot where Lot and his daughters escaped when fleeing the destruction of Sodom. Jordan is a castle lover’s paradise. Along the ancient King’s Highway lie Karak and Shawbak, two of the greatest Crusader castles. A trip to Jordan would not be complete without a visit to 2,000 year old Red Rose City of Petra. Carved into Rose coloured mountains this once lost Nabatean city is reached through the narrow Siq. You will be stunned by its beauty and grandeur. 70 kilometres north east of Aqaba lies Wadi Rum. A vast silent place, timeless and starkly beautiful. A night spent under the stars surrounded by rugged mountains and desert is an unforgettable experience.

The southernmost Resort of Aqaba is Jordan’s only outlet to the sea. It’s sandy beaches look out over the spectacular purple coloured mountains and sparkling azure waters of the Red Sea. Enjoy a full range of water sports including diving, snorkelling, sailing and water-skiing. There is also an aquarium, museum and newly excavated archaeological sites.
